Austin’s love for movement began at the age of four when he was put into his first dance class, and it quickly became clear that Dance was the career that he wanted to pursue. He received his BFA in Performance Dance from Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson), and is a graduate of the Arts Umbrella Graduate program in Vancouver. Working as a professional dancer for the past decade, most notably, Austin spent the last four years touring and performing for international audiences with acclaimed Canadian contemporary company, Ballets Jazz Montreal.
Austin has always been curious about the intelligence of the body, and is passionate about exploring new ways of moving. He was introduced to yoga while in University, which became a constant practice for him that supplemented his dance career. For Austin, Yoga was a healing outlet that brought peace and balance to his rigorous lifestyle. After ten plus years of practicing yoga, he most recently pursued his dream of travelling to India where he completed his 200 hour YTT in traditional Hatha. As someone who is highly sensitive and intuitive, Austin had the privilege of working intimately with many other intuitive individuals within the dance community. The experiences of being physically connected with other people while dancing lead him to dive deeper into the world of subtle energies, and he completed his Usui Reiki levels 1 and 2.
As a yoga teacher, Austin’s aim is to create a safe and supportive space for all levels of movement practitioners. He is truly honoured and thrilled to share his passion for movement with others.
